My name is Hayley Louise, I am an Artist, and my focus is Sculptures, i have turned my hand to many things "art" from pencil drawings at a very young age, to leather work and making harness and horse equipment, and not forgetting sculpting from clay and polymer. For many years this art talent has just been a weekend hobby, or a sideline to general work.
For the last couple of years I have been working with a new media, one in which I feel extremely; not only comfortable with, but also incredibly fascinated with!! WOOL, the magical technique of making fluffy sheep wool into a solid, perfectly formed sculpture or portrait. I still feel amazed after each finished piece, as if this creation was not completed by own hand, as with each hour that passes I feel that only a few seconds have gone by… sadly in those many hours, not much materialises!
Needle felting is a true art in its self - I know every artist praises his media - but wool really is unique, a stand alone. A whole piece can be totally destroyed with a single misjudgement and all those late nights and tiresome hours of hard work, no lunch break, are down the drain.
Needle felting is created with a single (or several if in a holder) thin “barbed” needle (barbed being the major difference to any other needle). This wonderful little - sharp - needles, when poked into the wool many hundreds, and thousands of times, it forces the fibres via microscopic scales along the hair shaft, to bind together - or felt - creating a semi solid form - depending on the wool, which could be from very hard, to slightly soft and pliable.
I LOVE to make things from wool,and would ideally make my living creating from wool!
